Determining a sensible diet and exercise program to lose weight has become harder and harder with so many diets available on the market today. Actually there are only two major ingredients needed for any weight loss plan. They are exercising more often and observing the foods you eat!

You will lose weight by consuming fewer calories, but if you want more rapid results then combining fewer calories with exercise is the answer.

When starting a diet, it’s a sound idea to maintain a food diary right from the beginning. In your diary record the foods that you are presently eating. Now sit down and go through your journal and see how much you have eaten in a single day. Consuming to many calories will make you increase weight, and the log you have kept will probably surprise you.

If you are eating far too many calories a day, then the first thing you should do is cut this number by reducing at least 500 calories a day. By reducing your calories by 500 per day for a week you should lose one pound. If you want to lose more than a pound then you can decrease your calorie intake further. You can accomplish terrific results from these easy steps. You may be astonished at how many snacks you have during the day when you look at your diary. Crisps, cookies, cheese and all the other snacks need to be cut out or at least reduced. You may be using 1000 calories each day, just on snacks!

You need to cut down on your calories, and a great way to do this is by eliminating and pre-packaged foods. Just be mindful of the chemicals, fats and calories that these products include and cut out what you feel you can. Buy a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables when you next go shopping and make this a part of your daily diet. If you just don’t have the time then using frozen veggies is the next best thing. Portion sizes are frequently a big issue with weight gain, so you need to decrease the amount of food you plate up. Trick your mind into thinking you have an adequate meal in front of you by using a littler plate. A full plate is an outstanding trick that works really well, as you still feel you have had a complete meal.

Some people feel that exercise as a daily routine might be a nighmare, but it doesn’t have to be. Lots of people get put off by the thought of exercising at the local gym and also feeling mortified about it as well You don’t have to join a gym, so it’s doesn’t have to be a concern! Beginning slowly if you haven’t exercised in a while is the right thing to do. Rather than using the car for a short trip, try to walk instead. Each time you make this walk try and advance the pace a bit and time yourself each time. After a few of these walks you will feel like you need to step it up a bit, so why not progress the distance and walk to the park or walk around the block. Any sort of exercise is going help you get healthier and burn more calories. Your body will quickly tell you that it can do more exercise and you can then increase the intensity of your workouts.

Cycling, dancing, swimming and climbing the stairs are also fantastic workouts that you can do. When you next go shopping at the mall forget the elevators and make a point of taking the stairs. All this additional exercise will soon show up on the bathroom scales.
