When you are trying to lose a little weight or change to a healthier lifestyle, it is essential that you diet and exercise. You can do either diet or exercise, but you will experience the best results if you do them together.

It is so hard to keep your goals and stay motivated as you train. So many things get in the way – life is crazy and work is stressful, or small children demand time. It can be so hard to keep workouts and eat right. These things make it even more essential that you stay with your goals. It is not easy, but there are a few things you can do to remind yourself of your goals.

Do not do it alone- find a friend! This is one of the most important things you can do. Having someone else right there beside you not only holds you accountable, but it keeps you motivated as well as your both share success. Friends are encouraging. Share with them your goals for exercise and diet and have them help you keep them. Share workouts, get them to help you eat healthy, and tell each other of your successes. If they rely on you to workout with them, that will help get you out the door on the most difficult of days.

Routine is another thing that will help you stay on track. Man thrives on routine, and exercise is no exception. Decide when you work out the best and do it then. Figure out if you are a night or morning person and schedule your workouts accordingly. No matter which one is best for you, just make sure you do it at the same time daily. Three weeks are the time it takes to create a habit, and the routine of daily exercise will make it a habit.

This same philosophy goes to diet as well. Scheduling your feeding time will help you stay about from snacking or binging due to hunger, since you will have filled up already.

Always keep your goals where you can remember them. Have a calendar on your refrigerator or desk at work, somewhere visible, and check the days that you maintain your goals. Keep your goals in mind daily through sticky notes or even joining a group online.

Make sure your goals are reasonable. Aim high, but have a few goals within easy reach. It's good to have a short-term and long-term goal. A short-term goal could be something simple such as "eat healthy five days in a row" or "Work out five days a week for a month." The important thing about short-term goals is that they are within reach and attainable. Long-term goals could be anything from living a healthier lifestyle to large weight loss goals.

Don't give up. Diet and exercise can be difficult, especially when challenges come. If you mess up and skip workouts, eat too much cheesecake or gain weight, forgive yourself. Everyone is allowed a little leeway from time to time. Just pick yourself up and get back to your goals! It takes time to form habits for the rest of your life, but it can be done, and the rewards are well worth it.
