Major sports brand Reebok have claimed that their new line of Easytone trainers can tone your hamstrings, calves and bum nearly 30% more than regular trainers just by walking in them. They claim the trainers can “train muscles your trainers never knew you had.”

But if you look hard enough you will find a few methods of getting in shape without changing your day to day routine. One very good, very new method is using the Reebok Easytone trainers, a shoe designed to create instability which the body naturally counteracts.

The sports giant claim the shoe creates a smaller, more unstable surface area which is significant enough to activate muscles without impacting the way you move or even making you aware. Supposedly your leg and bum muscles will naturally fight to find a balance point and will therefore work your legs and buttocks significantly more than usual.

The model turned actress enjoys swimming, yoga and dancing but focuses on her dance and fitness classes, which made her the perfect candidate for this exercise product aimed primarily at women.

You are able to wear the trainers, flip flops or sandals whenever you want and as long as you’re standing, they are working your muscles. It’s like sitting on an exercise ball all day rather than an office chair.

The scientists also surveyed users of the shoes over a period of several months and found that they experienced a degree of toning of the legs and bum. But the team struggled to determine whether the toning was entirely due to the imbalance the shoes created or the motivation to walk more.

Consumers have so far gone mad for the Reebok easytone range and there is rumour of further, more casual models to be added to the popular easytone trainers

Stress is a feature in the everyday lives of most of the population. People have learned to cope with moderate stress, but it can pose a major health risk if the stress is exacerbated or unremitting for a long period of time.

Allostatic load is the theory behind stress management. The University of Bologna presents research which says allostatic load, a reflector of the cumulative effects of stress, can become a problem when an individual is exposed to stress for a long amount of time. Once resources for coping are surpassed, an allostatic overload takes place, which can prevent a person from being able to cope with the various stresses being thrown at them.

Primary symptoms of stress appear small, though increased exposure to stress has been proven to increase the risk of more serious health problems. It has been established that chronic stress and an over active nervous system do indeed effect the health of the sufferer. Symptoms such as headaches and a weakened immune system can develop into more serious conditions.

Pro-inflammatory cytokines cause changes in cells and blood vessels which can be extremely dangerous for the body. The chemical messengers released during stress are said to increase the risk of conditions such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and hair loss.

Stress can have such an impact that in extreme cases sufferers can experience what is known as a nervous breakdown. While in this state everyday functions become impracticable as the person cannot adapt to their changing surroundings. More common though, are minor psychological illnesses such as depression or anxiety disorders such as GAD. GAD, or Generalised Anxiety Disorder is a chronic problem with symptoms including excessive and unrealistic anxiety about a simple situation which has been blown out of proportion, and constant worry about day-to-day activities.

9 in 10 visits to the doctors are thought to concern stress-related symptoms.

Leading sports brand Reebok claim that their Reebok Easytone trainers can tone your hamstrings, calves and bum nearly 30% more than regular trainers just by walking in them. They claim the trainers can “train muscles your trainers never knew you had.”

The concept seems too good to be true; you exercise the same amount or simply walk around and your legs and behind get a workout that would usually take hours a day at the gym. But is this all just some marketing campaign or do they actually work? A team of scientists with expertise in exercise, sport and physiology at the University of Wisconsin conducted a study to test the claims on each of the shoes.

But Reebok specifically warn that the trainers are not to be worn during sporting activities in which the body endures side to side movement as it can cause damage to the ankle due to a lack of lateral support.

The model says she enjoys swimming, walking yoga and dancing. An avid member of dance and fitness classes, she was the perfect candidate for this exercise range aimed primarily at women.

The University of Delaware conducted a test with a group of women, they made half wear the Easytone shoes and the other half wore standard fitness trainers. The women endured a series of exercises while attached to sensors which monitored muscle activity.

The results declared an increase in muscle activity for the subjects wearing the Easytone trainers in the muscles specified, but not to the degree Reebok claimed. The verdict is that although the trainers do provide a small degree of extra muscle usage, they are fairly expensive and it would depend on the individual consumer as to whether they believed it was worth it. Judging by the perky models featured in the advert, the campaign is likely to be very successful in convincing consumers of this.

Consumers can get their hand on the easytone trainers in stores and online and there is rumour of a extended Reebok easytone due next year.
