Let’s just refer to our characters at Brother A and Brother B today.    Brother A was about 28 at the time of this story and his Brother is 2 years younger than him.    Summer was fast approaching and the brother’s were going to be sharing a beach house for the upcoming season.  Knowing that they would be wearing swimsuits to the beach practically everyday, they both wanted to get fast abs by the time they were ready to leave for the beach.

Brother A who is the “know it all” of the two says that he doesn’t need any assistance in getting fast abs.  Brother B is different than his Brother and decides to do some research in the beginning phase.  Both Brothers have put on some extra pounds over the last few years by not working out!

Brother A proceeds to go to the local gym and sign up for a monthly membership at about $50 a month to try and get fast abs.   Brother B is not as fortunate to be making as much money as his brother and decides that he is going to have to get by working out at home to get his fast abs.

So Brother A starts going to the gym 5-6 days a week for 1-2 hours at a time.    He refuses to except the complimentary training sessions that the gym offers because he already “knows what to do”.  The other Brother decides to surf the web first, does some research, and buys a reasonably priced program that shows him a plan of what to do.

When you sign up for a gym membership you usually get a complimentary session or two with a trainer, just to show you around the gym and some of the equipment.     Then they try to sell you on a personal training package.

Well after 2 months of working out pretty consistently Brother A sees Brother B in his swimsuit after arriving at the beach and he can’t believe what he sees.  Brother B sports a rock hard stomach and looks incredible.  Picking his jaw up off of the floor, Brother A can’t believe he was the one with the gym membership and had nothing to show for it.  As competitive as Brother A is, he never takes his shirt off again that day.

He finally calms down a little and asks Brother B how he got his fast abs.    Brother B tells him about purchasing the program off of the internet and following what it said consistently.  He relayed to him that he couldn’t have done it without knowing what to do from the beginning.

This story shows that it saves time and effort to do a little bit of research before you start to accomplish your goal.   You can put into place massive action, but if your going in the wrong direction, you will waste your time and possibly get discouraged.

 

When you hear the words “exercises for abs,” you probably have these two words in mind: sit ups. I’m actually not surprised because sit ups are one of the most, if not the most, common forms of abdominal exercises out there. I wouldn’t be taken aback if my grandmother knew what they were.

Nevertheless, you need to recognize that there are other more effective ways to get abs than just sit ups. You need to mix them up, add some variety, and do them regularly for you to get fast results.

For this exercise, you need to lie on the floor and touch your fingers to your ears. Bend at the knees and mimic a cycling movement in the air using your legs. When your left knee comes up, lift your torso off the floor, twist to the left, and touch it with your right elbow. Simply do the same on the other side.

2. Weighted Sit Ups. These exercises for abs add resistance to your workout, giving your abs a little more oomph to work with. It’s basically a sit up with an added twist and increased difficulty. All you need for this exercise are light to moderately heavy weight simulators, like a pair of 1 lb. dumbbells or a hardbound book, which you will need to hold over your chest with your hands. 3. Full Body Crunches. As the name implies, these exercises work your arms, back, and legs, just like bicycles. To begin, simply lie down, place your hands across your chest, and bend at the knees. As you raise your shoulders for that crunch, pull in your knees simultaneously. Lie back down and start again.

4. Ball Crunches. Compared to regular floor crunches, ball crunches promote balance and work your core in its entirety. It’s very simple yet challenging, and I guess that’s the beauty of it. To start off, sit on an exercise ball. Lie back slowly until your upper body and thighs are parallel to the ground. Start doing regular crunches – you’ll instantly feel the added tension since you’re performing them on an unstable surface. With the ball, you get padded support for your back and a taste of variety.
