Weight -  Don’t scarf down everything in sight.    We all know it’s hard to resist, but it doesn’t need to be eaten just because it’s there.   This is especially true when dealing with fast food like hamburgers, or even bigger servings like steak.   Just remember when you’re eating those bad foods that each bite contributes to more fat on your body.   Of course, if you are a bit on the leaner side, you may need to eat a little more meat than usual.

Eat your veggies -  What vegetarians understand is that vegetables do your body a world of good. Some may be surprised that people who are vegetarians are more alert and active then the average person.   You need to do what they do and apply a veggie diet into your everyday diet.  Even trying to become a vegetarian may be for you, but if not, then at least include more vegetables in your everyday diet.

Eat food that will help you lose weight – Some dairy products and fruits will actually help you lose weight.   You need these foods because this exactly how to eat right.   These foods help your body not to absorb fats. And you will be left with a healthier body when those fats leave through your waste and sweat.

Don’t stop eating -  Yes, you can still eat food.   You should never go on a crash diet or fast to get a slimmer body.   Your body needs fuel.  The organs need vitamins and minerals that are essential for them to function correctly.   Giving up delicious food isn’t even needed.   All you need to do is eat less. This way, you’ll be able to not build up fat and you’ll also be able to lose weight.   Vegetables and low-fat dairy products are a few healthy foods that you should be eating.

Workout routine -  You can lose weight easily if you just workout, you don’t have to become a bodybuilder.  The minimum amount of exercise you need to lose weight is to do it enough to sweat the fat out.   Jogging or walking around your neighborhood are good things to do, because you need to at least sweat in order to lose weight. So, if you want to lose weight, just eat less and exercise a little and you’ll be fine.

Water -  If you drink plenty of water, you’ll really be able to lose weight quicker.   This will help you to sweat easier when you do light exercises and the fats will leave your body along with the sweat.    Make sure to drink at least 10 glasses of water a day so that you can properly hydrate your body.   For this part of your diet, you really need discipline.

You might find yourself as one of the people with limited extra time to unwind. So when this time becomes available, it is all the more important to do it up right. I worked for a big company for many years. It was stressful and I finally decided to quit and start a consulting business out of my home. It was great at first. I liked waking up when I wanted, working when I felt like it, and I loved being able to take a day off if I needed to do something important. After a few months though, I noticed I had put on several pounds. I was not overly concerned. I told myself I would start a workout routine after my business was settled.

Two years and fifty pounds later, I knew I really needed to do something drastic. But what? My business had taken off, and I never had time to work out! The freedom of being in control of my own schedule became an inability to stop working. I was fat, tired, stressed and starting to think about going back to an office job.

As a last resort, I decided I needed to join a gym. The commitment to the gym contract and the money I had to pay would force me to follow through. In fact, the more expensive the gym, the more guilty I would feel if I skipped a workout.

I kept putting it off. Then, one particularly stressful day, I made some coffee and went out on the back porch to take a break. It was a beautiful day, and I was feeling upset that I never got outside anymore. To distract me from all the negative thoughts and stress, I grabbed a book from the side table. It was a gardening book.

I had always loved everything about the idea of gardening and had always wanted to start a big one of my own. I could picture myself plunging my hands into the warm soil, watching the little seeds come up, getting to harvest my own fresh vegetables. For years I collected gardening books and articles, reading them and stacking them up for the one day I would finally be able to do it.

That’s when it hit me. Why join a gym and literally force myself to get exercise? I could spend the same amount of money on supplies for my garden. Instead of trudging along on a treadmill and staring at a wall, I could be hauling soil and hoeing rows. Instead of forcing myself, I could treat myself. I could do something to help myself live longer and be happier at the same time!

So I went for it. And though I won’t be getting into skinny jeans any time soon, I have lost some weight. But even better, I found an effective way to manage my stress while realizing a dream. There is nothing more soothing and satisfying to me than to take a basket outside and fill it with fresh vegetables from my garden. On a hectic day it is so easy to give myself permission to shut the door to my home office and go out in the garden for a half hour to recharge. When I crave a snack I graze in my garden or treat myself with a gardening article. My garden taught me being healthy is not just about weight. It’s about finding out how to be happy.
